6 Ideas for Designing Your Outdoor Living Space

From small patios to entertaining hangouts, here’s 6 ideas to dial up the style and create an amazing outdoor living space for your new home.

1. Purpose – think about how you are going to use this space and how it will suit your lifestyle. Do you like to entertain? Do you have young children or pets? Will it be a peaceful, tranquil zone or do you plan to host kick-ons. The ultimate outdoor living space will be one you can enjoy all year round.

2. Lighting – for ambience & functionality. Outdoor living areas essentially add another ‘room’ to the family home, paying thought to your lighting will give you options on how you can use the space at any time of the day or season.

 3. Cover – it might seem like a given but a covered outdoor living area can elevate the space and gives you more options if the weather is thinking about raining at dinner time. A bespoke louver system is a feature item, creating outdoor flow and a functional outdoor room.  A louvered, or opening roof can also help keep the heat from escaping

4. Outdoor kitchen – we love this outdoor cooking fire Escea EK1250 Outdoor Fireplace Kitchen. This beauty has been installed at our Show Home in Cambridge.  It comes with a pizza oven, adjustable grill plates, smoker box, meat hooks – basically all upgrades that will propel your stakes in the ultimate BBQ ‘Cook on Fire’. Best of all, once the cooking is done, slide the plates away and enjoy your roaring outdoor fire.

5. Orientation – consider the orientation to the garden, the north facing sun and take into consideration the prevailing wind direction. These weather elements might dictate on where you build or how you design your outdoor living area.

6. Plant Selection – easy care, flowers or plants that smell fragrant in summer or simply a large pot to fill an empty corner. Greenery can be used alongside your furniture and accessories to soften and add texture to the space.
